# Job Description

Save the Children is currently recruiting Gender Specialist for the
anticipated 4-year FCDO Northern Uganda Climate Action Project NUCAP, at our
Country Office in Kampala. The project aims to strengthen capacity to
contribute to the conservation and restoration of landscapes through the
development of green, sustainable livelihoods, supported by well-functioning
and incentivised value chains, whilst being inclusive of the private sector.
This will be achieved through enhanced bio-diversity and conservation of
native tree species, enhanced adaptive capacity and resilience to climate
change for communities and landscape and lastly through diversifying green
livelihoods and private sector investments. The FCDO funded NUCAP project will
be implemented in a consortium of Save the Children SCI, ECOTRUST & ICRAF.
The Gender Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the gender
transformative nature of project activities across the consortium, including
addressing barriers to participation and land ownership, economic empowerment
and leadership for women, and integrating appropriate responses. The Gender
Specialist will provide dedicated technical support to systematically
mainstream gender equality and equity activities /integrated gender
transformative approaches to ensure equitable decision-making over assets and
utilisation of natural resources. The Gender Technical Specialist is
responsible for technical support and implementation of the gender component
of the project across all consortium partners. S/he will coordinate national
level gender-related advocacy activities and initiatives with government, CSOs
and national level partners. In collaboration with the project MEAL
Specialist, s/he contributes to monitoring programme quality, documentation
and dissemination of innovations and good practices, as well as lessons
learnt. S/he will contribute to gender policy research and advocacy through
networking and collaboration with relevant civil society organisations and
other institutions.



–>Bachelors Degree in an appropriate social and development field such as Social Science, Sociology, Gender/ Women Studies, Development Studies, Community Development or A Post Graduate training in Project Management, or a Master’s degree in any relevant field is an added advantage.
–>5 years of progressively responsible experience in Gender Equality and GBV programme management, coordination, policy advocacy, technical assistance in women rights and programming around gender equality and transformative approaches and with an international development organization;
–>Provide technical support in the design and implementation of gender-sensitive and gender transformative programming, ensuring gender and GBV considerations are mainstreamed in NUCAP project, and monitor gender equality and equity in project design, implementation and evaluations.
–>Provide technical guidance during implementation of NUCAP project using gender transformative strategies ensuring equity in participation of all gender groups.
–>Participate in internal and external, including donor, meetings as appropriate and represent the Consortium in all relevant coordination platforms at national, sub-national and regional levels
–>Work with MEAL and sector Technical Advisors to integrate gender equality into all project MEAL processes including gender equality specific indicators, quality benchmarks and response monitoring and evaluation tools, including Real Time Reviews, and lead the process of analyzing data and adapting programming to respond to identified gaps and risks.
–>Establish, maintain and / or strengthen linkages with relevant government departments and civil society partners at national and regional levels in the management and implementation of the Project.
–>Holds self-accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and role modelling Save the Children values.
–>Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in a dynamic environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
–>Proven record of enabling/facilitating change through influencing, inspiring and mobilizing others;
–>Proven record of programme design in a development or humanitarian context;
–>Experience conducting assessments – including gender analysis – and revising monitoring and evaluation tools to capture gender and protection considerations for different sectors;
–>Effective communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences;
–>Fluent written and spoken English;
–>Commitment to and understanding of gender equality, child rights, the aims and principles of SC, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the IASC Guidelines.
–>Commitment to comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
–>Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
–>Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
–>Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
–>Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
–>Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
–>Excellent time management and planning capacity.
